Mystery Favorites

There’s nothing quite like a good mystery book, with that delicious mix of suspense, clever clues, and the irresistible urge to guess the ending before the final reveal. Whether it’s a witty, laugh-out-loud romp or a dark and twisty puzzle, mysteries keep us turning the pages long past bedtime. Here are a few of my favorite mystery books, each with its own spin on the genre, but all equally page-turning.

Devil in the Dark Water by Stuart Turton

Set aboard a 17th-century ship bound for Amsterdam, this novel delivers a locked-room mystery with a supernatural twist. Turton fills the story with an eerie vibe, complex characters, and enough red herrings to keep you guessing at every turn. It’s part historical fiction, part gothic thriller, and the kind of book you’ll want to read on a stormy night. Included with Kindle Unlimited!

Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto

For something lighter, Dial A for Aunties is a lot of fun. When a wedding photographer accidentally kills her blind date, her meddling but loveable aunties swoop in to help cover it up. It’s over-the-top, chaotic, and brimming with heart. If you want mystery with laughter and family shenanigans, this one’s a perfect pick.

We Solve Murders by Richard Osman

From the author of The Thursday Murder Club comes another charming, character-driven mystery. Expect clever puzzles, witty banter, and plenty of warmth alongside the whodunnit. Osman has a knack for creating older sleuths who are sharp, funny, and wonderfully human, making this a mystery that feels like catching up with old friends while solving a case.

Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson

Meta, cheeky, and darkly funny, this Australian novel breaks the fourth wall while still delivering a proper puzzle. Ernest Cunningham tells the tale of his wildly dysfunctional family reunion, where murder is practically a family tradition. Stevenson keeps readers in on the joke while also crafting twists worthy of a classic. Included with Kindle Unlimited!

Crooked House by Agatha Christie

No mystery list feels complete without Christie, and Crooked House is one of her finest. A wealthy patriarch is murdered, and suspicion falls on every member of his eccentric household. Tense, atmospheric, and filled with razor-sharp dialogue, it’s a reminder of why Christie remains the queen of crime fiction.
